Yes, you will need to download the SATA drivers for Win XP.
Which Sata controller do you have.

I seem to be getting no where fast on this SATA floppy. Maybe this is all over my head but just dosen t seem like it should be this difficult ecspecially with these exceptional tutorials. I have looked at the chipset files on my Dell drivers and downloads CD, but I m not sure what files to put on the floppy. Even if I knew which files I needed, whereas. they came with a windows7 computer would they work with a windowsXP install. I have tried to find WindowsXP chipset drivers for my system at Dell but am only able find same drivers that came om my drivers and download CD.

Hi larrym29
Download from Dell.
Unzip download file.
Open folder, copy files to floppy disk.
Thank you very much. This helped me find some XP drivers. My Dell laptop is a Studo 1558, but hardware listed in the 1555 is the same.
So I went and downloaded the SATA drivers installer Matrix Storage Manager. Extracted files to floppy, then ran windowsXP setup. After F6 I was actually shown 4 different contollers I started at the top and worked my way through all 4. Each time I ended with same BSOD acpi.sys.
During my search for Studio15 XP drivers I did run across a thread in Dell forum, where a person was trying to setup a WIn7/XP dual boot on a Studio 1558. There was a response from another MEMBER stating that the 1558 Bios would not allow WindowsXP install.
So now I m not sure where to go from here. I am debating flashing my Studio 1558 with the 1555 bios if that is even possible. As I stated the 1555 has the exact same hardware options as my 1558, but I have never messed with bios before and am a little leary.

Yes after posting this it took about 30 seconds of research to figure out that was a bad idea.

When you refer to a Floppy Drive in this tutorial, I assume you are also including CD optical drive. Am I correct.

Is there no way around using a floppy drive. The requirement makes it impossible to install a windows dual boot on a laptop.

Is there any alternative to using a Floppy Drive to load these, or does it require slipstream in that case.

Hello everybody,
I m actually in the same boat as many of you. I m trying to install Windows XP 64bits on dual boot with Windows 7.
My laptop is a Dell Studio 1555, 64bits. I think I ve figured most of what I need to do, however I still haven t been able to find a suitable SATA driver for my Dell laptop, that s suitable for 64bits.
I ve searched all over the place, an all I can find are XP SATA drivers that are 32 bits compatible only including Dell s website.
Does anyone know where can I find a SATA driver that can work with my Dell Studio 1555, 64 bits.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers.

No floppy drive
Is there a way to install the Sata drivers without a floopy. My new HP does not have one.
Quick question, will a USB external floppy drive work for this or does it have to be internal.
Purchased new HPE 150t and want to dual boot XP for older games that may be glitchy under windows 7. Would like to make it less complicated as possible and already have external floppy, but I see you mentioned USB flash drives won t work so just curious, thanks.

I currently have an xp pro machine running on a sata drive. Home grown.
I have since built a newer faster machine also with sata drives running windows 7 64 bit.
I really would like to keep this xp pro machine too since it has a bunch of apps that I am afraid will not run under windows 7 and even if they did I am not sure where the downloads are that I got them from.
OK so here is my idea. I take out the C drive from the xp machine and put it in with the other sata drives in my new win 7 machine. Go do the dual boot and tell it to point to the drive that has the xp pro on it. Being that it already has sata drivers will it work.
I have never done a dual boot but am not a total virgin to hardware and software. Just really do not want to have to load the windows 7 all over again as I have it running pretty good with a ton of adobe software.
Any ideas if I should just trash this idea or go for it. I have EasyBCD but have never used it. If someone who maybe has done this before could hold my hand or at the least point me to somewhere that has some instructions.
First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.

I am going to dual-boot install XP Professional 32 bit SP2 on a 64 bit Gateway laptop with Intel i5-460m and ATI Radeon HD 5650 Graphics. I can t find the SATA drivers on the Gateway site and I m not sure what I should be downloading from the Intel site nothing says SATA driver.
Also, does using a floppy disk mean you have to go back to those squarish plastic things.

It appears that Intel Driver version 9.6.0.1014 is what I need for XP Pro 32 and it is also the driver that is currently in use on my Gateway laptop. Does that mean I won t need to be ready with a driver on floppy at F6.
I have the Intel R 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller.
The processor is Intel R Core TM i5 CPU M460 2.53GHz

not sure about it
my friend just got 6 workstations
HP Z210 Workstation
in his company environment he have an application only works with Windows XP
he asked me to come over and uninstall Windows 7. . the default OS
and install XP for him to let that application works and to make his CEO satisfied with XP
my guessing now is
i found the Drivers of XP Here x86 and x64 which makes me feel ok that the machine will be compatible with the windows xp
but am not sure if am going to face the setup boot problem in this case of HP Z210 Workstation and if i do.. then i don t think this way works because there is no floppy reader in that machine and i noticed that the machine has SATA HDD
if this problem occur what should i do. any suggests. please
thank you

Hi
From what I can find on the Workstations, there come with Windows Vista Business.
Therefore you can use the Windows XP Pro Downgrade DVD to reinstall. No drivers needed.

You could look in your win 7 on that laptop and discover the hardware used there. Devices lists the controller. Alsos diagnostic software like Everest will show you what 7 is using. Print the results. I always diagnose my hardware and software with the free software Aida may be hard to find or the commercial version Everest. Unless I ve missed something the sata drivers used by win 7 bear the same name you just need the xp version.
If a true novice: go to control panel / system/ hardware /drivers and take note or print what you see there.
